We got together to create a finishing trail to the parking lot at the bottom. I have done trail maintenance before while working at Winter Park Resort in Colorado, but I never built a brand new section of trail. So this was a new experience. We had the full support of the BLM and IMBA backing us up as we cleared some dense brush. We even had the services of a remote control mechanical beast. Yes. I said Remote Control.
We had a great day and really got further than I thought we would. Afterwards the BLM shuttled us up to the top to do a Discovery Bombing run, and then at the bottom eat some burgers.
I would have to say that the trail system built by the IMBA and NWTA was one of the best trails I have ever ridden. That is pretty high praise considering I lived in Colorado and visited Moab, UT almost every year for the last twelve years. There is something about ridding in a damp forest that brings the soul alive and has you shouting OhMyGod, OhMyGod, OhMyGod, OhMyGod.
Yes it rained, but it really did not matter at all. We were all having fun. I can’t wait to get back out there.
